Can QuickBooks do inventory management?

QuickBooks can do basic inventory: QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced track quantities on hand, use FIFO costing, alert on low stock and handle simple purchase orders. For a simple business — one location, no bundles, modest SKU count — that may genuinely be enough.

Where it runs out: multi-warehouse stock, barcode scanning workflows, bundles/kits, batch and expiry tracking, B2B price lists, and deep multichannel sync (Shopify plus marketplaces plus wholesale). QuickBooks is an accounting system with an inventory feature, not an operations system — quantities live there to make the books right, not to run a warehouse.

The common pattern as businesses grow: keep QuickBooks (or Xero) for accounting and pair it with dedicated inventory software that syncs to it — each tool doing the job it was actually built for.
