Generating barcodes for products you sell?
A barcode is only useful if you can track what it's attached to. VNDLY auto-assigns barcodes to every product, then tracks stock, sales, purchasing and reorders across all your channels — scan with your phone, no extra hardware.
How to generate a barcode
- 1. Choose a barcode type. Pick Code 128 for general use, EAN-13 / UPC-A for retail products, or QR Code for links.
- 2. Enter your value. Type the text or number you want to encode. The preview updates instantly.
- 3. Adjust the size and choose whether to print the value beneath the code.
- 4. Download as PNG (for quick printing) or SVG (for crisp, scalable labels) — or copy it straight to your clipboard.
Barcode types explained
Not sure which to pick? Here's what each one is best for.
Code 128
The everyday workhorse — shipping labels, internal SKUs, asset tags. Encodes any text or numbers.
QR Code
2D code for URLs, product pages, batch info or anything you want a phone to scan instantly.
EAN-13
The retail standard outside North America — the 13-digit code on consumer products.
UPC-A
The retail standard in the US & Canada — the 12-digit code scanned at checkout.
Code 39
Common in manufacturing, automotive and inventory. Letters, numbers and a few symbols.
Data Matrix
A compact 2D code that fits a lot of data into a tiny space — ideal for small parts.
From barcode to full inventory control
A barcode on its own is just a label. The real value comes when every barcode is tied to a live record of stock, cost, sales and reorder points. That's exactly what VNDLY does: it auto-assigns barcodes to your products, then lets your team scan them with a phone to receive purchase orders, run stocktakes, check stock levels, and fulfil customer orders — across every sales channel, with AI demand forecasting on top. No barcode scanner hardware needed, starting at $49/mo.
Frequently asked questions
Is this barcode generator really free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many codes you create. Everything is generated right in your browser, so the values you enter never leave your device.
Can I use these barcodes commercially?
Yes. The barcodes you generate are yours to use on products, labels, packaging and assets. Note: for selling retail products globally you'll usually want an official GS1-issued company prefix for your EAN/UPC numbers — this tool renders any valid number into a scannable barcode, but it doesn't register the number with GS1.
What's the difference between a barcode and a QR code?
A traditional barcode (like Code 128 or UPC) is 1D — a row of lines that stores a short value, usually scanned by a laser or camera at point of sale or in a warehouse. A QR code is 2D and holds much more data (URLs, text, batch details) and is designed to be scanned by any smartphone camera.
What format should I download — PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for quick printing, slides or web. Use SVG when you need it to scale to any size without losing sharpness — for example on professional label sheets or large signage. SVG stays crisp at any resolution.
How do I turn these barcodes into a real inventory system?
Generating a barcode is step one. To actually track stock, sales and reordering against those barcodes, you need inventory software. VNDLY auto-assigns barcodes to every product and lets you scan them with your phone to receive stock, check levels and fulfil orders — no extra scanner hardware required.
