Disadvantages, honestly: admin overhead (each PO takes time to raise and approve), slower urgent purchases if approvals bottleneck, and 'PO fatigue' when businesses force the process onto trivial buys — which drives people to bypass it entirely.

The balance point: use POs for inventory and negotiated purchases, keep a threshold below which they're not required, and use software that raises a PO in minutes rather than a form workflow that takes days.
